About Zeus

Zeus is 5 year old Akita x GSD who needs a new home after his family who adopted him from us, have experienced some issues with Zeus around their children.

Zeus is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

He cannot live with cats.

Zeus previously lived with children, but after an incident resulting in an eye injury in his current home, we will not place Zeus in a home with children of any age.

Zeus has not lived with other dogs, and can be choosy over dogs he reacts to on walks. Some he will totally ignore, others he will bark at. He has grabbed a small dog on a walk, so is now muzzled on walks. This needs working on, and he would benefit massively from training classes.

Zeus is fine with adults, and can be affectionate and playful, however he does initially bark at visitors but our assessor found him to settle quickly.

Zeus is ok being left, sleeps downstairs, he travels well in the car and is housetrained.

He is ok being bathed, groomed as long as he can have his favourite toy.

Zeus is strong on the lead, especially when he sees something he wants to bark at- again training will help this issue. Not known how he is off lead.

Ideally Zeus needs an adult only rural home with space where he can burn off some energy. Experience with Akitas would be ideal, as he shows a lot of Akita traits. He needs a firm, fair owner.

Zeus is currently in kennels in Preston.

********** THE HOPEFULS *********
LET ME INTRODUCE YOU ALL TO THE HOPEFULS!

We have several dogs here in our kennels that for various reasons we are struggling to find the right homes for.
All of them have behavioural issues - many as a result of being let down by humans. All have waited a long time in kennels & really do deserve not to be kept being overlooked.
Having owned several dogs with similar issues & not giving up on them- let me tell you, the ones who are the hardest work - are the most loving, the most rewarding & do leave the biggest gap when they're gone, so do not deserve to keep being overlooked.

HOPEFUL NUMBER 2 - ZEUS AKA MR FLUFFY A***E!
Zeus is a gorgeous 5 yr old akita x gsd who's original owner could no longer keep him, so asked for our help back in June 2021. We assessed Zeus & he was quickly rehomed to a young couple with a child. Zeus had always been around little ones without issues, so we were confident he would be fine.
Sadly, the child in this home ( 7 yrs old ) , fell onto Zeus while he was sleeping, when he jumped up startled he accidentally caught the childs face. No treatment was needed & it was a one off unfortunate incident but the family then decided they did not want to keep Zeus so he was brought into our kennels in March 2022.
Zeus was pretty aloof from the moment he arrived- a breed trait. He took his time to suss us out, and see if we were trustworthy enough of his love.
Once he decided we were worth it, he became the biggest daftest cuddle monster ever! He showed us his stubborn, awkward, cheeky, mischievous ways & we soon realised he was a pussy cat if we had any sort of food in our hands!
We tested Zeus with other dogs & he showed he was happy to play with larger dogs, but wasnt so keen on small yappy things. He had previously grabbed a small yapping dog on a walk, so was then walked with a muzzle - as much for his safety aswell as the safety of others.
As Zeus was enjoying the company of other larger dogs, we rehomed him with a family who had a steady bitch. They were given the advice we give all new adoptees - TAKE THINGS SLOWLY.
As we see far too often this advice was totally ignored & within hours of getting Zeus home they took him outside for a walk! Not surprisingly Zeus reacted to a dog he spotted & when he was grabbed to pull away he redirected his frustration & grabbed the womans leg.
Had these people let him settle for a week & let him suss them out just as we did- this would never have happened.

So, After 48 hours Zeus finds himself back in kennels. Now with a bite on his records, this totally changes any dogs future & people have no idea how difficult it is then to place dogs with a bite history.
HOWEVER WE WILL NEVER GIVE UP on Zeus or any of our dogs simply because they were handled incorrectly, put in the wrong situation or been failed by humans.

Zeus quickly settled back into kennel life & this is where he has been since March 2022. Over a year waiting for someone who can earn his trust- a long time, but we are hopeful that person is out there!
As Zeus is a stunning dog many that have applied to adopt him have simply gone on his looks, and not taken the time to read his information, so we are hoping this Warts and all post will help him find that right home!

Zeus CANNOT live with children of any age no matter how many dogs that child has been around.
Zeus CANNOT live with cats- no matter how dog savvy your cat is - it will not survive his teeth!
Zeus CANNOT live with other dogs- no matter how wonderful your dog is- no matter how experienced you are at introducing other dogs to your dog - it would be too stressful for Zeus so we will not put that pressure on him.

Zeus must be muzzled on walks. This is simply because if he cannot get his own way if he wants to have a go at another dog he will turn and redirect his frustration on his handler.
We walk him here without issues, he is quite comfortable with the muzzle on and it makes walks safer & more relaxed for him. He walks so nicely on the lead, he is a delight to walk!
Zeus is completely housetrained, and immaculately clean in his kennel. He is ok travelling in the car, but does get excitable!
Zeus needs someone to give him time, space & let him choose to come to you in his own time. Once he has sussed you out, he is a very biddable dog who will do anything for food. We have used this as a tool to encourage him to do things he doesn't want to quite easily- for example grooming- he isnt keen, so one person has the food, the other has the brush!
Zeus is such a comical boy, such a clown who bounces about loving life . He also loves just lying on your feet, chilling with you, and this is where he shows his loving pure heart of gold to you.
Zeus's next home MUST be his forever home. We will provide all the support & guidance you need to make adopting him a success.
Zeus will need to meet his new people a few times. He can live with adults, but it mustnt be too busy a household as we do not want to put too much stress on him after such a long time spent in kennels.
Zeus enjoys his food- and especially loves any kind of sausage treats!

Zeus is with us in Preston, Lancashire.
