About Basil

This pretty little lady is Basil a Collie cross GSD , who is nearly 3 years old. Basil was dumped with her littermates as a tiny puppy at a shelter in Romania, and has since waited patiently for a chance to find a better life.

Basil arrived with us in January a scared, nervous girl but has absolutely flourished & gained confidence & is now ready to find her forever home!

Basil is vaccinated, microchipped & spayed & holds a full pet passport.

Not known how Basil would be with cats & we are unable to test her in kennels.

Basil has the sweetest , gentlest nature and would be fine with children, but we feel she would find small , noisy children a bit scary & overwhelming- so older children only please.

Basil has always been around multiple dogs without issues, and mixes well with all dogs here at the kennels. She does gain some confidence with other dogs about, but we have worked on building her confidence levels up as an only dog and she has done really well. She could live with other dogs or be equally fine as an only dog.

Basil is a little shy at first but soon comes round. She is not food or treat orientated but does love a fuss & ear rub. When she bonds she becomes your shadow & is always one step behind you!

Basil is mostly clean in her kennel but does love to throw the water bowl about as a toy!

She is doing well with her training to walk on a lead, and she comfortably accepts the harness on now. She will need more work on lead walking. She will completely ignore dogs on walks, and does love a good sniff about!

Basil is nervous of getting in and out of cars, so again a little work on this area and she will flourish. Basil is a very intelligent girl and picks things up very quickly.

Basil is ok being left, she doesn't chew or destroy things. She does love company though and we would not like her to be left too long. She has never been in a crate & we do think this would be stressful for her to be enclosed, so new owners must be aware and if they wish to crate train her, it will take time & patience.

Basil has so much character & is a cheeky little lady. She deserves the absolute best home & to be loved beyond measure.

Can you give her the time, patience & love that she needs?

Basil is currently in kennels in Preston, Lancashire.

UPDATE APRIL 2025

Beautiful girl Basil has been with us a while now and we have got to know her quirky ways better , so this is an updated post about our beautiful girl.

Basil has bonded with one of us here at the kennels, and does tend to favor me, and still bark at other people, she soon comes round and it is just nervousness.

Although Basil was with lots of dogs at the shelter, she totally ignores them here, unless they come close to her chosen person, then she chases them off! This needs managing carefully in a home environment as it could escalate if not addressed. Basil would be happy as an only dog.

We know that she has never lived in a home environment, and have been trying to introduce her to 'homely' things- but obviously at kennels we are limited in what we can do.
Basil is a little thief! Anything she finds on a work surface, cupboard, chair etc. she will pinch- be it food or clothing!
She is fine with household noises- washing machine , radio etc. so this shouldn't be an issue.

On walks Basil does get spooked easily, and then tries to escape her harness / lead to run from what has scared her. She does calm with gentle reassurance - but we have no doubt given the opportunity she would run, and recall is non-existent.

Basil needs a calm, patient owner who will take things at her pace and not try to rush her or introduce too many new things at once.

In time she will be the most amazing companion, but for now she needs slow, careful handling.
Basil will give you her whole heart once she trusts you, and believe me her heart is huge!!

Can you give Basil the time and patience she needs on the next step of her journey?
